Ten years ago, TEENPLICITY started out as a dream between friends who knew the power of writing, the community that could be found within fandom, and who were curious to know more about how their favorite art was made behind the scenes. We knew that we were creating something that we desperately needed and wanted as young people/artists: a platform in which young artists and what interested young people was taken seriously. Never could we ever have imagined that something that began the way TEENPLICITY did would grow into what it has become.
Our goal for TEENPLICITY readers has always been to cut through the flashy text and bright colors of the magazines and websites we grew up with to focus on what fans really want to know. For ourselves, our goal has been to give 100% to everything we do.
However, our focus going forward in our lives and careers, as well as the importance of our health, our families, and more, has shifted our aspirations away from TEENPLICITY.
As has been seen with a number of other independent pop culture media magazines recently, the responsibilities that come with operating a website like TEENPLICITY requires work that can no longer be sustainable to continue. This means that we are no longer able to put our heart, soul, and total dedication into TEENPLICITY like it deserves and how we were once able to. With this in mind, we have decided to end this chapter of TEENPLICITY with all the love we have for our creation and with an ability to look back fondly on all we have achieved.
In order to grow, it is time for us to move on.
To anyone that is saddened or surprised, please know that we did not make or take this decision lightly but we knew we had to make it to preserve the integrity we wanted TEENPLICITY to uphold and to give ourselves permission and opportunity to explore who we are as writers utilizing the skills this work has helped us develop in the past decade.
Before signing off, we would like to thank you for your continued support over the last ten years. What started as a passion project to ask the often overlooked questions has evolved into something beyond our wildest imaginations. And we cannot stress enough how much it means to us that so many people were willing to take a chance on us—even when we were teenagers still figuring this all out—to tell their stories.
Since we began, TEENPLICITY has had hundreds of interviews and feature articles reach readers in over 200 countries. That type of influence comes with great responsibility that we have appreciated and carefully considered over time.
Being able to watch TEENPLICITY and the careers of the artists we’ve featured grow over the last ten years has been a joy that is difficult to put into words. Not only has the website grown but the TEENPLICITY Team has too, as writers and individuals. We have forged lasting partnerships and incredible memories through our work.
We hold nothing but the deepest appreciation for all that have supported TEENPLICITY since its inception in 2013 and have helped us foster a website that we can be proud of.
We also want to take this time to show support to the current writers and actors on strike right now fighting for fairness, sustainability, justice, and humanity in an industry we covered so heavily on here. Our work would be nothing without yours and we hope that on the other side of this strike is a newly built industry that is more willing to open its doors to fair wages, opportunities, and benefits.
While we have no current plans to continue TEENPLICITY, we will be keeping the website up as an archive and are not ruling out the possibility of a special appearance every once in a while in the future.
For now though, this is goodbye.
With all our thanks and appreciation,
The TEENPLICITY Team
